Attunements and reiju are initially performed in person but with globalization, attunements are now being sent by distance. This method is an extension of the concept of distant healing, which has been used in the system of Reiki. If a practitioner wishes to learn the system of Reiki then solely receiving an attunement is not enough — one must study the five elements of the system of Reiki.
