Mikao Usui was given the title ‘Doctor’ by Hawayo Takata. This led to some believing that he was actually a physician even thought it was not the case.
Using this type of terminology can be misleading for clients and students, leading them to believe that the system of Reiki’s origins are allopathic. Constant repetition of this mis-information does not promote the system of Reiki as a reputable practice.
However, a student of Mikao Usui, Chûjirô Hayashi, was a doctor and his medical background is claimed to have helped Mikao Usui create the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai’s healing guide.
