This non-initiatory attunement was developed with the intent that it focus on healing the self rather than the ability to ‘do’ Reiki.
However the perception that attunements give the student the ability to ‘do’ Reiki is not held by all systems of Reiki. There is within the system of Reiki a general understanding that everyone consists of universal energy. If this is so then all that is needed is intent when placing hands on the body to support healing by drawing on this innate ability.
Traditionally in Japan, the reiju did not ‘make’ one into something, e.g., a Level 1 practitioner. The reiju was seen as a support for the student’s personal growth. The system of Reiki is a number of practices that when brought together teach one how to use Reiki for healing and spiritual development, this is not governed solely by an attunement or reiju.
