Hiroshi Doi uses the word kotodama rather than jumon to address the mantras taught in the system of Reiki. Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikidô who is said to have been an acquaintance of Mikao Usui, also used kotodama in his teachings. He belonged to the Oomoto sect who had formulated effective meditation techniques and powerful chants based on kotodama. Kotodama in Shintô invoke specific energies/deities.
