(Japanese) Purification.
Purification rites are a vital part of Shintô. A personal purification rite is purification by water; this may involve standing under a waterfall, which is known as misogi.
In Mikao Usui’s teachings there is a technique called kenyoku hô — a method of dry bathing or brushing off, which is a form of misogi. Shintô priests practice techniques such as kenyoku hô.
One Shintô practitioner said that he performed a similar ritual with a group of men from his village where they wore only a red loincloth at the hekogaki festival (putting on the loincloth festival).
