Oomoto Religion and Reiki
Oomoto is the name of a Shintô sect considered to be one of the new religions of Japan. One influential member was Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikidô. It has been suggested that he knew Mikao Usui.
The true Reiki mantra of the pseudonym CKR is also used within the Oomoto religion. Oomoto have extracted it from the Shintô teachings.
A spokesman for Oomoto, Masamichi Tanaka, states that the true mantra (not the pseudonym) of CKR literally means ‘Direct Spirit’ and that it is a part of the Divine Spirit which all of us are bestowed with from God, the Creator of the universe. He writes that, ‘This is a word (or term) we use at Oomoto and Shintô.’
One more interesting point is that Oomoto appears to have no concern about writing or discussing the complete mantra with those outside the religion, unlike some within the system of Reiki. This attitude can help Reiki practitioners to understand that it is not the mantra or symbol that is ‘powerful’ but rather the practitioner’s personal work with them.
