Rabinovitch, Professor Judith
Professor Judith Rabinovitch., Ph.D., Harvard University; Currently Karashima Professor of Japanese Language and Culture Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Montana, USA.
She studied Tenohira ryôji with Miss Endo (an original student of Toshihiro Eguchi) for one week. ‘Miss Endo (then aged around 97 in 1994), [was] an original Ittôen student of Toshihiro Eguchi ca 1929 or 1930. She initiated me without my knowing it, just by putting my hands under hers (I had no idea what for at the time) for a longish period of time and then telling me just to 'keep practicing', saying my hands were very good. This sort of informal initiation and a call for practice seems to have been the way at Ittôen.’
Professor Judith Rabinovitch reports feeling great energy in her body and hands thereafter, and she continued to practice for 10 years. She went on to train through to the teacher level with a Japanese priest in 2002.
Professor Judith Rabinovitch has copies of Toshihiro Eguchi’s diaries and monographs and is interested in continuing her research into spiritual healers from the early 1900s in Japan.
