The Reiki Ryôhô Hikkei is a 68-page document divided up into four sections. There is the introduction or explanation by Mikao Usui; a question and answer section with Mikao Usui; the Ryôhô Shishin or healing guide with specific hand positions and 125 gyosei (poetry of the Meiji Emperor).
It was given to shoden (Level 1) students of the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai.
It is believed that Chûjirô Hayashi created the healing guide for the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai as it is similar to his own healing guide which was developed after 1931 when he left the society. The creation of this first healing guide may have been prior to, or after, Mikao Usui’s death.
Kimiko Koyama, former president of the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai, compiled the Reiki Ryôhô Hikkei for the society’s 50th anniversary from past Usui Reiki Ryôhô material. Therefore, although the Reiki Ryôhô Hikkei has been promoted as Mikao Usui’s manual, it is unclear how original to Mikao Usui the material is.
