Shûyô means to cultivate one’s mind or improve oneself. Shûyô kai was the name the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai once gave to their group meetings. After the shûyô kai there was the jisshû kai, the practical gathering, where some techniques were performed. Today the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai group meeting is called the kenkyû kai.
