The Reiki Dojo was founded in May, 2007, in New York City by Janet Dagley Dagley, editor of The Reiki Digest and a student of Frans and Bronwen Stiene. The New York City Dojo meets Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m., with a private session from 7 to 8 p.m. open only to Shinpiden and Okudens in the International House of Reiki lineage, followed by a public session from 8 to 9 p.m. The Washington D.C. and Denver Dojos were founded in 2008, with other chapters in development. Both meet monthly for private sessions open only to Shinpiden and Okudens in the International House of Reiki lineage. The word dojo means "a place of the path" and is generally known outside Japan in reference to martial arts practice spaces. Reiki founder Mikao Usui's practice space was also called a dojo, and it is used here to signify that the emphasis is on traditional Japanese Reiki practices.

The New York Reiki Dojo offers Level 1 (Shoden) and Level 2 (Okuden) training and sponsors Shinpiden and advanced training with Frans Stiene. Shoden and Okuden students learn not only from training sessions, but by attending and participating in the regular weekly Dojo meetings.

Dojo members also offer private Reiki treatments and consultations.
