Buddhist Dieties & non-religion within Reiki.

Hi folks,
Just wanted to make a comment about the above Diety & SHK. While Amida Nyorai may be where SHK (within Reiki) originated, it doesn't follow automatically that it holds the same meaning within Reiki. What was wrote under 'Islam' kinda conflicts with what's wrote above also. Members of religions may not feel comfortable using what in effect is taught as representing a Buddhist diety. Only a couple of weeks ago, on a Reiki forum, i saw a muslim who felt uncomfortabel using Reiki, as he began to feel that using the symbols was calling upon others things besides Allah. Without concrete evidence, besides single sources, i feel it's a move in the wrong direction to allude to such Buddhist meanings. Any thoughts? :-) .

Hi Wayne,
Yes you are right, but as the system comes from Japan and was created by Mikao Usui we can not ignore his background. Specifically as the International House of Reiki teaches from a Japanese perspective.
On the other hand you can also say to people who are concerned about it that the deity is just a representation of the same energy, just a different way of connecting to it.
Let's look at Kannon or Quan Yin for example, if we connect to Kannon then it is the compassionate aspect we connect to, ultimately there needs to be no separation between the practitioner and Kannon, at that time the practitioner realizes that he/she has discovered their inner compassionate nature.

Hi Wayne.

The 2 major religions in Japan are Shintoism and Buddhism.

In the Pure Land (Jôdoshû) and True Pure Land (Jôdoshinshû) Schools, Amida Nyorai is the main deity, and spiritual peace of mind lies in being able to attain salvation by relying on his power.

There's so much things to learn about Usui Reiki Ryoho (Healing Art). And if you're like me, I search for truth in order for me to be an effective Reiki Master/Teacher.

According to Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei, Usui Sensei didn't use symbols. There are no mantras (jumon) in Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, only symbols.

Symbols and mantras are only tools. Later, we become the symbol. Symbols are use to transcend space.

We have to remember not to get attach to the symbols/mantras.
In Usui Sensei's "Explanation of Open Teaching" deities were not mentioned.

"My Usui Reiki Ryoho (healing art) is original, never before explored, and incomparable in the world. Therefore, it is to be made available for the good of humankind, so that anyone may be blessed with this heavenly gift, that the soul and body may be as one, and heaven-sent well-being may be realized in one's life. Beacause my Reiki Ryoho is a unique and original art of healing based on the healing power of the universe, a person first becomes healthy and then soundness of thought and the joys of life are enhanced."

Reiki is not a belief system at all. It helps us to develop our spiritual growth. As we evolve in our Reiki journey, a Reiki practitioner is encouraged to transcend the need for outside support or help, and to let go of Reiki symbols/mantras.

Just like anybody else, I search for truth. Reiki is a Blessing to me. I believe that Reiki must be shared to everyone.

Being a Reiki Master/Teacher is a big responsibility, we owe to give our students the most honest and accurate information that we can provide in order for them to be well informed.

Reiki is both a therapeutic and spiritual practice. Reiki is a heavenly gift given to us by Usui Sensei. Reiki is a blessing that anyone can learn and is to be made available for the good of mankind

If you have some new information, please share it with me and the rest of Reiki community:-)

Just for clarification could members please stick to using the term "system of Reiki" when referring to the teachings of Mikao Usui is the five elements and "Reiki"when talking about spiritual energy. In this way we will not have communication problems.
Yes, the system of Reiki is a blessing that anyone can learn. Hope you are all enjoying your Reiki practices.
