Feelings of Byosen can be classified as follows (in increasing strength of reaction):-1. On-netsu (warmth) 2. Atsui-on-netsu (Intense heat) 3. Piri-piri kan (tingling sensation) 4. Hibiki (throbbing sensation) 5. Itami (pain) This information is contained in a Q&A section answered by Usui Sensei within "Reiki Ryoho no Shiori" published by Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. I've personally also experienced numbness and a sense of "deadness" - almost an anti-feeling. Also have experienced cold.

Hi Trish,Interesting. With what do you associate those feelings? Personally, i rarely feel warmth now (think my hands are too warm to start with...), usually it's tingling or throbbing, and occassionally pain creeping up. I have experienced temporary paralysis of my hands, and would associate this with a build up of energy (not going anywhere) so I can avoid it now through a more gentle, allowing state of healingmind. For me, "deadness" is a pre-cursor of this paralysis. Cold is rare for me - I feel it sometimes when scanning - seems to be associated with old injuries or blocks, though of course some areas (such as the kidneys) are naturally cold... [Running energy through the kidneys and then out of the hands is a qigong technique that can be used for inflamed conditions (where there is an excess of heat)] In any case, it's probably wrong to be so prescriptive about it. Best to go by your own experience and try to understand that. Love, John Do you find this valuable? |

Hi John,Really I don't associate anything with it. I just make a mental note that it was there for taking notes about the session, "watch" it to see if it changes. It's just too easy for me to go "down the rabbit hole" with thinking I know what it going on with the person, instead of just being present with the client and the Reiki. Kathleen Prasad just put a page up under Animal Reiki and Communication and this piece that she wrote below is also relevant to human beings and this discussion:For many people, the deeper they go into the Reiki space, the clearer and easier it is for their intuitive information to flow. For others, the energetic connection of the Reiki treatment may not bring many intuitive messages. Either way, this is not an indicator of whether or not the Reiki treatment was successful. Indicators such as relaxation and stress-relief behaviors from the animal as well as the practitioner's own feelings of the flow of energy will indicate a successful Reiki treatment.
