Reiki practitioner = psychic????
Jan 31 2009, 5:54 PM EST
I just had an interesting experience - a phone call about a treatment. I was asked some good questions about my years of experience, my charge per session, what level I currently practice. Then came the zinger. "Do you see auras clearly or not so clearly?" To which I responded, "I do not practice as a professional psychic." My would-be client said a polite thank you and promptly hung up on me. I meet so many practitioners who consider themselves psychic because they practice Reiki. The two things can certainly go together - but I am not a psychic, and have no wish to become one. Once again I find myself frustrated at the expectation that I *must* be psychic or I am not a "good" Reiki practitioner. Reiki is a simple practice, but no less profound for that. The practice does not need to be combined with anything else to make it more valid. Do you find this valuable?

RE: Reiki practitioner = psychic????1 minute ago Hi Trish, Yes unfortunately many people think that a Reiki treatment will be a kind of psychic session, which it isn't. Within the system of Reiki you will learn not to become attached to all these kind of visions and experiences and just let go. The more we let go the more energy will be able to flow through you. I have added a link to an article about being in a non-attached space while doing a treatment. http://www.reiki.net.au/news.asp?id=162 The interesting thing to note that what we see is being filtered through our own perceptions. Say we see a red ball of energy at someones heart area when we do a treatment. One person might say that the red is anger, the other person might say that the red ball is love and the next person might say that the red is the color for luck. Most of the time we will interpret these kind of images in our own way. Which one is correct? Hope all is well with you Trish. Love Frans Do you find this valuable? |

In the beginning, I had a difficult time because although infrequent the things that would seem to appear before me while doing a Reiki teatment were quite vivid. My difficulty is in just what to tell the subject when questioned what I had experienced. If I told them, it might result in some digression into what then did I think that it means. I learned quickly not to discuss my own experience but to change the topic to find out what they experienced. Since being guided in non-attachment by Frans, and also having become aware of how we ourselves interpret the ebb and flow of energetic stimuli to suit our current perception of the world, I now simply just enjoy the show when it appears. I seldom speak of what I experience and absolutely do not try to interpret it even for myself Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks - as always Frans! I have voiced frustration about this before - and before you reminded me of what I already know. Perhaps I'll eventually remember on my own? And, thanks for the reminder of this article! By some miracle, it is relatively easy for me to be in a non-attached space when giving a treatment. The next challenge is to stay in that space when I feel judged because I don't fit someone's notion of what a Reiki practitioner is... again, I'm there most of the time. But once in a while I get caught off-guard. Always somewhere to grow! =) Do you find this valuable? |
