Reiki on dogs
Jun 10 2008, 12:25 AM EDT
Hi Everyone,I own 2 dogs. 1 Cocker spaniel (red) and 1 beagle. They are both 9 months old and were rescued from the RSPCA due to abuse and not being able to find the right home. It is amazing over the last 3 months how much Reiki can do for an animal. I find it an alternative way to communicate with the animals. to. I hold the dog in my arms and put their head next to my heart and perform Reiki on their tummies and heart. I think they are too head strong and not good to perform Reiki on the head. They love it and once they are let go they love running around and jumping around like a new lease on life. They are such a beautiful animal 4 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

That is a great story, Thomas! Bless you for rescuing those puppies!Have you ever tried to OFFER Reiki to them? To leave it up to THEM whether or not they choose to receive, rather to hold them? You are on the right path, but might want to re-evaluate your approach... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Hi Equizens,Indeed, i let them come to me on their choice. Nothing more annoying for a dog I believe for your to be holding them. I will not pick the dogs up against their will. They come to me or jump on my lap when they want undivided attention but most of the time they are as happy as Larry To just be roaming and doing as they please. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Hi Thomas, Welcome to the group, and thanks for sharing about your dogs--Reiki is a wonderful way to connect more deeply to our animals that we love so much! My dog Dakota is also a rescue (16 + years ago). He's been the best companion a human could ever hope for, not to mention an amazing Reiki teacher to many Reiki students over the years (including me of course) :)You bring up a great point: animals love to "do as they please" with Reiki, and this is the great thing about them--they show us exactly the hows, whens and wheres of any treatment we may offer them. The more flexible we can remain in our "Reiki way" with them, the more open they will become, and it is a humbling experience to watch our connection to each other within that energetic space deepen over time. I have just come off anti-depressants. I find that the dogs played a big part in the healing process as they seem to know when there is something wrong and then tend to come up to you unconditionally. Their love is unconditional. That is a beautiful horse you have there in the picture. How long have you had he / she for? Tom. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"So very often, we humans refer to ourselves as if we are outside the Kingdom Animalia. In terms of biological classification we are, in fact, animals! Animalreikisource points out that our companion animal friends show us what they need. In my experience, human "animals" do this as well. We can never force anyone, two- or four- legged, winged or finned to "take" Reiki. We offer only, and they use what they need. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Hi,Hi Thomas, I do believed that animals are often healers, and know several people who have healed from depression as a result of their horse, cat or dog. Therapy animals in hospitals and rest homes are invaluable! Therapy horses help special needs kids improve beyond their doctors' expectations...And the guide dogs that I do Reiki with are absolutely the most amazing creatures--brave, unselfish, highly intelligent and dedicated to their people--they give their humans back their independence which is a priceless gift....On many levels and in many ways, animals help us, heal us, and teach us. That's me with Kodiak, my 6 yr. old paint. I've had him since he was 2 and 1/2. He's grown up so much! It was quite a challenge going through his "terrible 3s", everything went in his mouth and he like practicing saying "NO!".... It is wonderful to see him grow, change, mature, learn..... he is a thinker, smart and incredibly calm and easy-going, just the BEST!! :) Blessings, Kathleen 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Hi there :-)About 2 months ago we welcomed our 1st Weimaraner pup (also called Kodiak!) into our lives. Being a Weimaraner he has been blessed with extraordinary energy levels, my daughter and I have found Reiki a wonderful way of helping him connect to his quiet side when he has got himself all over excited (as pups do). We call him over and, as Thomas does, offer a hug filled with Reiki and he finds his quiet self pretty quickly. Its as lovely for him as it is for us as once feeling calmer he is far more centered and balanced and therefore he plays in a mush more positive and happier way. I also have a couple of cats and couple of rabbits and Reiki has been of benefit to them in various ways over the years. My eldest cat (17) Figgis will actively seek out a Reiki treatment on pretty much a daily basis, it helps him to be calmer as he is quite highly strung (had a lot of house moves with previous owner before we took him in permanently). He isnt so fit and healthy now he is older and he used to need alot of steroids for a flea allergy but hasnt needed any for years now. Also I just wanted to say how much I agree on the animals being healers topic, I have always received alot of healing energy off of all my pets over the years and they always seem so happy to share it. I cried at a TV program the other night (a dog being rehomed) and Kodiak looked up at me from accross the room then came straight over and tucked up under my feet, normally he would bite them (hes only 4mths old) but instead he just lay their sharing his energy. Wonderful! With blessings, Nina Do you find this valuable? |

Hi Nina,Thanks for your input to the conversation:) How cool your dog has the same name as my horse:) Small world! It's wonderful how Reiki can bring calm and balance even to a Weimeraner's temperament! :) And Reiki is so beneficial for senior animals: what a wonderful gift you are giving Figgis in supporting his golden years w/Reiki. That's a lovely story about Kodiak coming over to comfort you too! Our animal companions are pretty amazing, aren't they?! Blessings, Kathleen Do you find this valuable? |
